Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
The Tech for Everyone Reader (“the Reader”) is a free library of digital textbooks from Tech for Everyone. It is used by students, many of them children, so we keep data collection to a minimum. This policy covers the Reader website (tfereader.app) and the Reader apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
The short version
Section titled “The short version”- No accounts. You never sign up, log in, or give us your name, email, or age.
- No ads, and no selling or sharing of data.
- Your reading progress and grade choice stay on your device.
- We use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics to count page visits in aggregate. These counts can’t identify you.
Information stored on your device
Section titled “Information stored on your device”The Reader saves a few settings in your browser’s or app’s local storage so it can remember them the next time you visit. This information stays on your device. It is never sent to us.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your grade band (for example, “Middle School”) | Shows you the right books |
| Chapters you’ve marked complete | Tracks your reading progress |
| Light or dark theme | Remembers how you like to read |
| Saved copies of pages | Lets the Reader work offline |
To delete this information, clear your browser’s site data for the Reader, or uninstall the app.
Read Aloud uses your device’s built-in text-to-speech voice. The text is read by your device, not sent to us. Search runs entirely on your device too.
Analytics
Section titled “Analytics”We use Plausible Analytics to learn which books and chapters are being read so we can make them better. Plausible:
- does not use cookies or store anything on your device;
- does not collect names, emails, or other personal information;
- does not track you across other websites or apps;
- does not store your IP address. It uses it briefly to make a daily anonymous visitor count, then discards it.
Here’s what we see, only as totals across all readers: pages visited, how far down a page people scroll, how long they read, which chapters are marked complete, which grade band is picked, and which outside links and buttons are clicked. We also see general information such as country, browser, and device type.
Error reports
Section titled “Error reports”On the website, we may use Sentry to receive reports when something breaks, such as the page that failed and the browser being used. These reports are used only to fix bugs. They don’t include anything you type or any account information, because the Reader has no accounts.
Children’s privacy
Section titled “Children’s privacy”The Reader is designed for students from kindergarten through high school. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. There is nothing for a child to fill in, no chat, and no way to contact other users. Schools can use the Reader without collecting student data or creating student accounts.
Links to other websites
Section titled “Links to other websites”Some pages link to other sites, such as Tech for Everyone’s textbook store or the educator portal. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don’t control.
Changes to this policy
Section titled “Changes to this policy”If we change how the Reader handles information, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
